Puslinch on board with county-wide committee

Puslinch Township is in favour of establishing a county-wide economic development committee.

“I think it would be advantageous to Puslinch,” clerk Brenda Law said on Nov. 4.

Last month, following a meeting of all Wellington County’s mayors, chief administrative officers, and economic development personnel, Mapleton’s Patty Sinnamon wrote to all seven lower tier municipalities asking them to support a request to county council to establish the committee.

“It makes sense to pool our resources and market Wellington County with a regional approach and subsequently on a global scale,” Sinnamon said in her letter.

Puslinch councillor Susan Fielding liked the idea, particularly because she felt the township is often a “forgotten” area of the county.

Councillors Don McKay and Dick Visser agreed, though they both noted the idea makes the most sense if all the municipalities are involved.

Centre Wellington has rejected the idea and Wellington North has deferred the matter.

Puslinch council unanimously supported the idea, as well as the terms of reference for the committee, joining Minto and Mapleton  as municipalities that have done so to date.
