Puslinch council waives fees for Aberfoyle Family Day event

Councillors here have no issue waiving rental fees for a Family Day event next month.

On Jan. 18, councillors reviewed correspondence from the Puslinch Optimist Club president Michael Marinovic.

“For the past four years the Optimist Club of Puslinch has held a series of events in the Community Park, over the Family Day long weekend …

“Each year, the club has requested the township reduce or waive fees …

“We plan to organize activities such as, skating, snow sculpturing, horse drawn sleigh rides, fire pit, music, physical activities in the gym, and entertainment in the hall. All of the afore mentioned activities will be at no cost to families attending.”

The planned 4-on-4 hockey tournament to take place in the rink on Saturday and Sunday will be a fundraiser to offset costs for other Family Day events.

Council received the correspondence and waived fees for the facility use from Feb. 18 to 20.

Council authorized the fee apply to all the Sports facilities at the Puslinch Community Centre grounds as well as the community centre.

The club is required to provide proof of insurance, and assumes the cost of staff required over the weekend.

The club is also responsible   for bartenders and for providing a special occasion permit seven days prior to the event.

The value of the rentals is  $6,526 for Feb. 18 and 19, the value of the rentals on Feb. 20 is $1,356.

“Essentially this is the same as last year,” said Mayor Dennis Lever.

Councillor Matthew Bulmer asked to emphasize the fee waiver is a value uncollected rather than a cost incurred.
