Public health issues COVID-19 advisories for Guelph establishments

GUELPH – Public health officials are advising the public – and particularly those aged 18 to 24 – about two COVID-19 risks identified in the City of Guelph.

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Western Hotel Burgers and Steaks, located at 72 Macdonell St.

“Public Health is advising anyone who attended this business on Sept. 6, 9 or 11, 2021 to monitor themselves carefully and get tested if any symptoms appear,” stated spokesperson Danny Williamson of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH).

Patrons may also have been exposed to COVID-19 at Trappers Alley, located at 100 Carden St., on Sept. 4 and 7, resulting in “heightened risk for potential transmission.”

“Anyone who attended this business on these dates should monitor themselves carefully and get tested if any symptoms appear,” stated Williamson.

For more information on isolation, testing and self-monitoring visit the WDGPH website.

“Public health has strong evidence of COVID-19 transmission among young people in our community – particularly the 18 to 24 age group,” Williamson stated.

He added WDGPH officials are urging members of this group to pay special attention for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible if symptoms appear.

“Now that the Delta variant is the dominant strain of COVID-19 in our area, young people are at greater risk than earlier in the pandemic,” said Williamson.

“Public health strongly encourages everyone who can get vaccinated as soon as possible and follow all public health measures.”
