The Grand River Predators football team has announced it is beginning a fundraising drive called Project Home Team to send Waterloo Region’s homeless children to as many of the team’s home games as possible.

Funds raised will be put toward establishing a permanent facility for the team and assisting with equipment purchase and high operating costs.

Beginning on June 1 the team is launching a crowdfunding program hosted on Indiegogo through which people can donate to support the cause.

“Maybe we, as an organization, can’t solve the homeless problem in Waterloo Region, after all, we are a football team, but maybe we can help raise a child’s spirits for a moment as they spend some time with us and that’s worth something special,” said Jim Macarthur president of the Grand River Predators.
