Police make arrest in mail thefts

Police have arrested and charged a Fergus man in connection with recent mail thefts in Centre Wellington and Guelph-Eramosa.

Wellington County OPP officials say they received numerous reports in both municipalities about Canada Post community mailboxes being forced open between Feb. 14 and 21.

The OPP Street Crime Unit took over the investigation and on Feb. 22 made an arrest.

Richard Cutting, 31, of Fergus, was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (both over and under $5,000) as well as resisting arrest, mischief under $5,000 and breach of undertaking.  He was to appear in Guelph court on Feb. 24.
