Police beat: OPP Easter traffic safety campaign stats

LONDON – OPP West Region officers charged nearly 200 drivers for failing to wear a seatbelt during the Easter long weekend traffic campaign.

The campaign, which ran from March 29 to April 1, , focused on seatbelt compliance.  Police say West Region officers conducted over 3,200 traffic stops over the long weekend – the highest number of traffic stops of any OPP Region in Ontario. 

The results included:

– 194 seatbelt charges;

– 1,559 speeding charges (the most laid of any OPP Region in Ontario);

– 40 stunt driving/racing charges;

– 27 distracted driving charges and

– 29 impaired driving charges.
