Police beat: Five stolen vehicles recovered near Erin last month

ERIN – Local police are searching for those responsible for stealing five vehicles recovered here almost three weeks ago.

Wellington County OPP officials say officers executed a search warrant at a fenced compound on Sideroad 17 in Erin on April 28.

“Investigators were attempting to locate a stolen [SUV],” police stated in a May 9 press release.

However, police say investigators seized a sea-crate and five stolen Lexus SUVs, including:

– a black 2023 RX model stolen from Nobleton;

– a black 2023 RX model stolen from North York;

– a white 2021 RX model stolen from Toronto;

– an orange 2024 RX model stolen from Vaughan; and 

– a black 2024 TX model stolen from Markham.

Man charged in crash

CENTRE WELLINGTON  – Police have charged an Orangeville man in connection with a crash here two months ago that left five people injured.

Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 6 in former Nichol Township on March 10 at about 11:30am.

Wellington County OPP officials say a white SUV “left the roadway and occupants were injured. Five people were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

 Semere Ayekum Haile, 40, of Orangeville, was charged with careless driving causing bodily harm and is to appear in Guelph court on June 19.

It’s not clear why it took police two months to report the incident to the media.

Unlicensed motorcyclist

WELLINGTON NORTH – Police have charged a Palgrave man with numerous offences after stopping a motorcycle here over two months ago.

Wellington County OPP officials say an officer “stopped the driver of an unlicensed motorcycle” on Wellington Road 109 in  Wellington North on March 7 at about 1:15pm.

Salvatore Robert Giuliano, 41, of Palgrave, was charged with driving while prohibited, resisting a peace officer, driving while suspended, driving with no plates and driving without insurance. 

He was to appear in Guelph court on April 30.
