Police beat: Construction equipment stolen

PUSLINCH – On April 10 at about 9am, Wellington County OPP received a report about a theft at a property on Wellington Road 34 near Victoria Road South.

Police say that sometime between April 2 and 9, “unknown suspects entered onto the property and stole a piece of heavy construction equipment described as a yellow 2000 Catepillar vibratory compactor.”

Stolen goods

FERGUS – Police are looking for a man and woman they say are responsible for stealing over $1,000 worth of merchandise from the Walmart here.

On April 11 Wellington County OPP was notified of a theft that had occurred on April 10 at about 4:35pm at the store, located on St. David Street North (Highway 6) in Fergus.

Police say a man and a woman “entered and exited the store separately, both filling shopping carts with product and grocery items. The male walked out the front doors near the produce area with no attempt to pay. 

“The female placed the product into a rolling laundry hamper and walked out past the register area making no effort to purchase. Both parties were observed walking to a white Ford SPE.”

The total amount of stolen property is about $1,100, police say.

Partner violence

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.

Those arrested include:

– a 32-year-old from Elora, who was charged with spousal assault, uttering threats (damage property), disobeying a court order and breach of recognizance  in relation to an incident in Elora on April 6; and

– a 23-year-old from Guelph, who was charged with spousal assault in relation to an incident in Palmerston on April 10.

The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Plethora of charges

MAPLETON – A Neustadt driver is facing close to 20 charges after being stopped by police here last week. 

According to the Wellington County OPP,  an officer pulled over a commercial vehicle on Wellington Road 9 in Mapleton on April 3 at about 3:30pm.

A 56-year-old from Neustadt is facing 18 charges related to insurance, vehicle defects, inspection reports and various safety issues.
