Plethora of charges for man ‘slumped over steering wheel’

FERGUS – On March 8 at about 9pm, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint on Gartshore Street.

“It was reported that a driver was slumped over the steering wheel and stopped in a live lane of traffic,” police stated in a May 10 press release.

Jacob Daniel McConnell, 29 years, of Fergus, was charged with impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand for a breath sample, possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, driving while suspended, possession of a Schedule I substance (opioid), driving with an open container of liquor and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

It’s not clear why it took police two months to report the incident to the media.
