Pianist returns to museum stage

On Oct. 6, at 2pm, the first Gallery Concert of the season will delight lovers of piano music.

Sandra Mogensen returns to Wellington County Museum with a program of Scarlatti, a “sampler” of Grieg Lyric Pieces.

Mogensen did her early musical studies with her mother, Edite Mogensen, in Sarnia. Further training as a pianist has taken her to study with Damjana Bratuz at the University of Western Ontario, the Orff-Instiut Abteilung of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen.

In 2000, she collaborated with Germany-based Canadian bass, Paul Sketris on a recording of Schubert’s great song cycle, Winterreise. The two artists have been friends since childhood, when their first musical collaborations included playing piano duets, Mogensen has played across Canada and recorded extensively, especially the music of her beloved Edvard Grieg, whose music she has recorded in a trilogy

Mogensen holds the position of Faculty Pianist at the annual National Music Camp of Canada at Lake Couchiching and is a founding member of the National Piano Trio, ensemble-in-residence at NMC.

The exhibition hall, in which the Gallery Concert Series offers six concerts of live music a season, will be graced with the original art work for the Elora Tarot Card project, 78 pieces representing the full tarot deck, designed by local artists.

Gallery Concert Tickets are available at the door, and include entry to all the exhibits of the Wellington County Museum, as well as refreshments and an opportunity to meet the artist.
