PALMERSTON – The Palmerston Marlins U17 Invitational welcomed 16 teams from across Ontario to Barb Wright Ball Park for a weekend of fastpitch from July 17 to 19.

Despite challenging conditions that included smoky skies, periods of heavy rain, strong winds and finally sunshine on Sunday, the athletes showed incredible determination, resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, officials say.

Teams travelled from communities including Napanee, Barrie, London, Wyoming, Vaughan, Mississauga andStratford, showcasing the tremendous talent found across the province.

“We thank every team, coach, volunteer, umpire, sponsor and fan for making the weekend such a success,” officials say.

“A special congratulations goes to our hometown Palmerston Marlins U17 Black team, who completed an outstanding undefeated 7-0 tournament run to capture the A Division Championship.

“Playing in front of family, friends and the local community, the Marlins battled through every obstacle the weather presented and proudly brought the championship gold home to Palmerston.”

The team was to attend provincials in Stratford from July 24 to 26.
