The October meeting of the Harriston and District Horticultural Society  was held in the Train Station Hall.

The minutes and financial report were reviewed and passed. Lynn Collins introduced the guest speaker Vic Palmer, who told members about how he developed his interest in horticulture, particularly trees. He also handed out a trivia quiz on trees and discussed some interesting methods of transplanting trees, both good and bad. Using slides, he illustrated various methods of preparing trees for planting and also displayed different containers used by commercial growers to transport and plant the trees. Afterward, he answered questions from members.

Satellite design is a contemporary design in more then one container connected by way of organic or non-organic materials. Each container may hold a completed or a partial arrangement and the combination creates an arrangement. Three entries were placed in the design competition and judged by members.

Dorelene Anderson placed first, Mary Anne Connell second and Linda Campbell third.
