Orton artist's work on display at Elora cafe

An exhibition of work by local artist Jim Reed and others is on display at a local dining establishment.
The display works by the artist, an Orton resident,  opened on Aug. 12 at Cafe Creperie and will continue through the end of the month.
Carol Podedworny, director and chief curator of the McMaster Museum of Art, says Reed’s current exhibition at the Creperie, located at 40 Mill Street, exemplifies his dedication and his generosity.
“Curated by Reed, the exhibition includes works by himself and by others - artistic heavyweights such as York Wilson, Pola Gauguin and perhaps even Paterson Ewen. Reed’s own work here stretches his oeuvre from drawings and sketches of the nude, to impressionist inspired paintings of landscapes and still lives, to modern abstractions as well as a sampling of found object collages/constructions. Reed’s work shows his understanding of the technical goals of the artistic influences he has adopted as well as his ability to channel the elements in hand to a contemporary expression. There is something for everyone here and a visit is worth every art lover’s while,” states Podenworny in a press release.
Podedworny said Reed has “a long and expansive knowledge of the history of art - and not just of Western art but of the ‘lesser’ genres of naïve, degenerate, symbolist, Dada and surrealist art, as well as the art of other cultures.”
She also points out he “reveres the practices and works of his artist forebearers - the Impressionists and Modernists, the avant-garde and degenerates, as well as his teachers and colleagues such as Corbett Gray, lately of Elora.”
