HILLSBURGH – Organizers are inviting the community to join in celebrating World Environment Day on June 5.

An event will take place at the Erin Town Hall near Hillsburgh from 10am to 1pm, rain or shine.

This year’s theme is “Only One Earth.”

The event will include the Erin Environment and Sustainability Advisory Committee Environment Award ceremony, which will take place at noon. Food will be provided by Naydos Potatoes.

This year’s nominees for the award include Val Steinmann, Jay Mowat, Jen Edwards, Abel Page and Liz Creighton.

Each of the nominees are longtime advocates for the environment who have made strides in their community to protect it.

Rainbarrels will also be sold for $60 and turtle signs for $5.

Organizers request purchases be pre-ordered by emailing esac.erin@gmail.com.

A bring-your-own-compost pickup in exchange for a donation to East Wellington Community Services will also be available from 10am to 12pm.

During the event, there will be environmental vendors, activities for kids and electric cars on display.
