OPP investigating possible drowning at Elora Quarry on Sunday afternoon

ELORA – The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit has been called in after a possible drowning here late on Sunday afternoon.

On May 17 at about 3:45pm emergency crews responded to a possible drowning at the Elora Quarry on Wellington Road 18.

“It was reported that a 20-year-old male was swimming and went under the water but failed to resurface,” stated a press release from the Wellington County OPP.

“OPP, Centre Wellington Fire Rescue and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service responded but could not locate the missing individual.”

The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit has been contacted and police continue to investigate.

The quarry, owned by the Grand River Conservation Authority, is currently closed to the public.
