An Ontario Municipal Board member has directed the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) to issue a licence for the Roszell?Road gravel pit proposed by Preston Sand and Gravel.

After township and Preston officials were able to come to an agreement on a private haul route and vertical zoning, board member Karlene Hussey found the Preston proposal to extract gravel from a 60-acre, triangularly-shaped piece of land (located east of the Speed River and west of Roszell Road) “meets the official plan and provincial policy statement requirements to remove a part of the prime agricultural lands on the subject property.”

Hussey also found the Preston plan “represents good planning and is in the public interest.”

Her order means the township’s zoning bylaw amendment became effective March 10 and Preston will receive an extraction licence from the MNR.
