Oakes, Sharan M. (nee Gibson); Registered Nurse. Passed away peacefully on January 8th, 2011 at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, at the of age 63. Beloved wife of Curtis Oakes of Alma for 42 years. Loving mother of Faye and her husband Terry Martin of Fergus and Jeff and his wife Rebecca of Waterloo. Dear grandmother of Xavier and Nadia Martin and Ashton and Hunter Oakes. Loved sister of Jim Gibson and his wife Sharon of Windsor, Yvonne and her husband Don Hessenaur of Arizona, Marilyn and her husband Terry Gallamore of Elmira and Betty and her husband George Hawk of Kansas. Fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A dedicated nurse, Sharan spent most of her career in community nursing with agencies such as the VON and more recently assumed the role of Charge Nurse at the Royal Terrace in Palmerston until her retirement in April 2009. Friends were received at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church St. East in Elora, on Wednesday, January 12th from 1-4 & 6-9pm. Funeral Service was conducted at Central Pentecostal Church, 7674 Colborne St. (between Fergus & Elora), on Thursday, January 13th at 1:30pm. Interment at the Elora Cemetery.
