Last weekend marked the kickoff day of the 2010 Bowl for Kids campaign here.

On Feb. 21, local politicians were out in full force showing support for the North Wellington Big Brothers Big Sisters programs.  In attendance were MP Gary Schellenberger, MPP John Wilkinson, and Minto Mayor David Anderson.

Throwing the balls to start were Little Brother Dexter Schoutsen, Schellenberger, Wilkinson, and Anderson.

Marnie Mainland, caseworker for the North Wellington Big Brothers Big Sisters said, “We were delighted to have  teams from the Minto-Mapleton area out to help us raise $18,270. This is a great start to helping us reach our goal of $60,000 in this year’s campaign.”

The campaign continues until March 7. The Mount Forest community bowls are Feb. 28 and in Arthur March 7.

Anyone wanting to enter a team can call 519-323-4273 and we’ll get you involved.

“We also have the school challenges happening with Arthur Public and Palmerston Public participating. So the place to be in the next few weeks is the Mount Forest Bowling lanes for fun and to raise money for a very worthy cause.”

She said, “As always we are so grateful for your support. The awards breakfast will be held  April 24; watch for our official thank-you and invitation to the breakfast. Winners will be notified but everyone is welcome.”
