ELORA - Tree Trust is excited to announce the 2024 Tree of the Year contest.

Do you have a favourite tree that holds a special place in your heart?

Whether it’s a towering oak in your backyard, a graceful willow by the river or a majestic maple lining your street, we want to hear your stories and nominations!

The Tree of the Year contest aims to highlight the beauty, diversity and significance of trees in our communities.

Through this contest we discover all kinds of trees underscoring the diversity of trees in our urban canopy.

To nominate a tree, simply submit a photo or drawing along with up to a 150 word description of why it deserves to be crowned “Tree of the Year.”

One tree will be selected by a panel of judges and honoured on Sept. 21.

It may also qualify for “royal treatment” by Tree Trust arborist, Baum Tree Care.

One entry will also be drawn at random for a $100 gift card to Magic Pebble Books.

From last year’s winner: “The tree has been there since we moved in almost 40 years ago. The tree became famous on its own really, people would stop by my property just to look at it, it really is wonderful that a tree can interest so many people!”

Submissions close Aug. 15. To submit a nomination please email cw@treetrust.ca or, visit treetrust.ca to learn more.

“As we anticipate the crowning of this year’s Tree of the Year, let us reflect on the profound impact that trees have on our environment, culture and well-being.

“Together, let’s continue to nurture and protect these invaluable treasures for generations to come,” officials say.
