No one injured in Rockwood blaze

ROCKWOOD – No one was injured in a structure fire on Main Street in Rockwood on Tuesday afternoon.

Guelph/Eramosa firefighters received the call just after 4:30pm on June 3.

The building, which contained both businesses and residential units, was safely evacuated.

“When we arrived there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the upper portion of the building,” said Guelph/Eramosa Fire Chief Jim Petrik.

“We did both an interior fire attack and also we attacked the fire from the outside with our aerial truck.”

Petrik said the fire was contained within an hour and firefighters from both Rockwood and Hillsburgh were on scene.

“There were 15 firefighters from Rockwood and a few from Hillsburgh,” he said.

The estimated damage is $200,000 and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
