Upper Grand District School Board representatives, the Town of Minto and the developer of the former Harriston Senior Public School property have agreed to a temporary walkway for students to access Minto-Clifford Central Public School.

The temporary walkway will be available once the George Street reconstruction is complete - estimated to be finished by the end of October.

Students will be able to cross at George and William Streets and walk part way up William to access the walkway.  It will be located at the southwest edge of the property and will run diagonally over the former school property to the opening in the fence at Minto-Clifford Central PS.

When finished, the walkway will be about two metres wide and will be surfaced so it can be maintained by the town. The walkway will be fenced from construction for safety and will be available through the school year “if it is used responsibly,” states an Oct. 3 press release issued by the board.

Students are being asked not to damage the fencing and remember that the former school site is now private property and an active construction site. The walkway location will be reviewed by all three parties at the end of the school year.  A final walkway location will be determined as development approvals are advanced on the former senior school property.

“The board, town and developer appreciate the cooperation of students, parents and nearby residents during the construction period for the lands.”
