Trevor Aitchison and Paul Balfoort, owners of Balson Preventative Solutions believe the only way to eradicate termites in communities is to use a new and approved method that protects homes, the environment and communities.
The idea for Balson Preventative Solutions came from Aitchison and Balfoort’s own challenges and concerns with protecting their homes against these invasive pests.
In 2012 both Aitchison and Balfoort purchased new homes within the village of Elora. After a few months of ownership it was brought to their attention that there was a significant termite issue within Elora and Fergus and that insurance does not cover the damages incurred by these pests.
Knowing that termite problems in their homes could significantly decrease the value caused them great concern, and thus began their journey on discovering a solution that would protect their homes in an environmentally safe and permanent way.
After months of researching solutions in Canada, the only treatment that they discovered was a harsh chemical product that was injected into the ground around the perimeter of the home or property affected.
The effects that this would have on the environment from soils to water tables was alarming, not to mention that the maximum life of the product was one to five years.
The cost involved to treat with this method ranged from $2,000 to $5,000.
After months of research and coming up with only one very weak solution for their homes, Aitchison and Balfoort decided to take their search for a solution south of the border to the United States.
Knowing that the southern states were ravaged by termites, this is where their search began.
After some time and many conversations the two came across an organization called Nisus Corp. who carried a product called Bora Care, a product that protects and treats for termites, carpenter ants and wood boring beetles.
To their excitement they found that the product had been in existence for 15 years, manufactured by Nisus Corp and had a written money back guarantee.
Then the most exciting part was that they discovered the Canadian Federal Government had just approved it for use in Canada. The Bora Care product is designed to be treated directly to the wood structure of a home, fence, deck, shed, or barn at the construction stage or in existing structures. It can be applied to any exposed wood.
