Neighbourwoods protect young trees with mulch
Mulching - Staff and volunteers from Neighourwoods mulched a number of young trees in Elora on July 22. A layer of mulch spread at the base of a tree (think donut not volcano) helps keep tree roots cool and maintains moisture. It also protects tree bark from being dinged by mowers and string trimmers – an all-too-common practice that injures and sometimes kills a tree. In a couple of weeks, the crew will be out again tackling some Fergus trees in need. Submitted photo
