Negotiations continue for arena lease
Wellington North Mayor Mike Broomhead is confident an arrangement should be completed on the lease of the old Mount Forest arena to Victory Church.
“We’re down to the final strokes and hopefully we’ll be able to bring this back to the council table fairly soon.”
The issue has been in negotiations for some months now following last year’s decision by council when it agreed, in principle, to lease the entire arena to the church
Support at that time was not unanimous as concerns were raised as to how much it would cost the municipality in the long term. Wellington North originally chose to replace the aging arena and community hall rather than put the money into renovations.
The lease on the property used by Victory Church expires at the end of this year.
