The recent announcement by MP Gary Schellenberger that he will not seek re-election in the 42nd General Election has kick-started the Conservative Party of Canada nomination race in Perth-Wellington.
The nomination process opened on Sept. 25 and the deadline for applications was Oct. 9. The nomination meeting is expected to be held between Nov. 6 and 9.
John Nater announced his candidacy in a Sept. 29 press release, stating he hopes to be the party’s candidate in the next federal election campaign, expected in 2015.
Nater is a municipal councillor in the Municipality of West Perth, a lecturer at King’s University College and a long-time political assistant. With over a decade of experience in federal, provincial and municipal politics, Nater says he comes prepared for the job.
“The true role of any public servant is to make our community, our province and our country better for future generations,” said Nater.
“As a father, this is especially important to me. I am running to see our country thrive and prosper so that my little girl and all Canadian children can grow up knowing the freedoms so dearly fought and paid for by previous generations of Canadians.”
A date for a nomination meeting will be set later this fall. Only members of the Conservative Party of Canada may vote in a nomination meeting. Memberships may be purchased online at www.conservative.ca or by calling the John Nater campaign at 519-854-9178.
Nater, his wife Justine, and their daughter live in West Perth.
