Museum gets support for youth event

Students in the Guelph and Wellington area will receive a special museum experience, thanks to the government of Canada.

Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong announced April 22 on behalf of Minister of Veterans Affairs Greg Thompson a contribution to the Guelph Museums – up to $2,000 through Veterans Affairs Canada’s Community Engagement Partnership Fund. That will allow grade 8 students to discover Canada’s military history through a day of events and demonstrations.

“Engaging Canadian youth in our military history is a great way to pass on the importance of commemoration to tomorrow’s leaders,” said Thompson.

“We are proud to support initiatives that expand their knowledge and encourage them to keep alive the memory of our Veterans’ sacrifices.”

Chong added, “Canada at War: the Guelph-Wellington Experience is a unique and wonderful learning event. Students will be able to interact with experts in military history and learn about their country in a very meaningful way.”

The fund helps non-profit groups, educational institutions, and other organizations delivering remembrance activities and events.

Administered through the Canada Remembers program, contributions are made all through the year and encompass national and community-based projects. To learn more about the Community Engagement Partnership Fund or to apply for funding, call 1-877-604-8489.
