Guelph-Eramosa councillor Doug Breen says resident John Murison showed great foresight when he began planting trees on his property in the mid-1980s.
“You were miles ahead of the curve on this one,” Breen told Murison last week. “Well done.”
Murison said he’s likely planted about 50,000 trees over the last 25 years, including at least a couple hundred near the corner of county roads 27 and 124.
He was presented with a certificate recognizing his contribution “to the aesthetics and environmental health of the community” by Mayor Chris White.
“It’s very nice when private landowners step up to the plate and contribute,” White said.
He noted Murison’s efforts are very important considering council has committed to increasing tree coverage in the township to 30%.
