Murder victim identified by Wellington County OPP

The name of the victim in a homicide case under investigation here was released by Wellington OPP on Aug. 31.

Xhuljeta Vlashi, 44, of Rockwood, was found dead at her Gamble Lane home, when police were called to investigate reports of a family dispute around 9pm on Aug. 27.

The following morining, a suspect, Xhevahir Myftari, 36, of Rockwood, was arrested in Mississauga, with the assistance of the Peel Regional Police Service.  

He has been charged with first degree murder and made his first court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on Aug. 29. His next court date is Sept. 20. Details of the Aug. 29 court appearance are covered by a publication ban.

On Aug. 29 members of the OPP were assisted by the Toronto Police Service with an evidence search in the City of Toronto.

Although confirming the suspect and victim both lived at  109 Gamble Lane, police have declined to specify any relationship between them. However neighbours have identified the man living at the residence as the victim’s brother-in-law and said he drove a silver BMW that was reportedly the subject of the investigation into the woman’s death.

Police have also declined to comment on reports the victim suffered stab wounds.

A funeral service was held for Vlashi, who worked at a Brampton dental clinic,  at a Toronto funeral home on Sept. 1.

The West Region OPP and Wellington OPP Crime Units, West Region OPP Technical Identification Services Unit, under the direction of OPP Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Inspector Chris Gilpin, continue with the investigation.
