Multi-family dwellings dominate report

Multi- family dwellings accounted for most of the building activity in Wellington North, chief building official Darren Jones said in an Aug. 11 report to council.

The report noted $3.48 million in building activity was registered by the township for June.

Jones said in his report that three multi-family dwelling permits were issued during the month valued at $1.15 million, bringing in permit fees of $20,854. Agricultural construction came in a close second at $1.11 million with permit fees of slightly more than $10,000 and industrial registered a building value of $587,500 with fees of $6,700.

Total building activity for 2014 so far is $10 million.

Mayor Ray Tout said the building of multi-unit dwellings could be beneficial for retirees and single people.
