Like Water for Chocolate is a Spanish language film with English subtitles. It is a film produced and directed by Alfonso Arau. It is the latest in the Film-on-a-Plate series. This is a great date night option at a price that will make you say Ole.
Like Water for Chocolate tells the story of Tita De La Garza, the youngest daughter in a family living in Mexico at the turn of the 20th century. Based on an epic novel by Laura Esquivel, it continues the tradition of magical realism that is central to modern Latin film and literature.
In a story that reveals how the magic and mastery of herbs and spices can influence the balance of life, this film covers a journey filled with passion and sensuality foiled by tradition and tyranny.
In Mexico hot chocolate is made with water, not milk. The water is brought to a boil and then the chocolate is spooned into it. A person in a state of sexual excitement is said to be “like water for chocolate.”
Come sample some of that magic with Mexican influenced beverages, hors d’oeuvres and desserts before and after the film.
Tickets are $20 and include beverages, apps and desserts. Tickets are available at the Fergus Grand Theatre, the Mill Street Bakery and Bistro or online at www.sensationalelora.com.
Sensational Elora is a festival of the senses, raising money and awareness to fight poverty and hunger in Centre Wellington.
