New candidates continued to step forward this week, ahead of the Sept. 12 nomination deadline for the Oct. 27 municipal elections.
In Mapleton, the latest candidate to file, at press time, was Michael Martin, of RR1 Moorefield, whose addition on Sept. 9 brought the number of candidates from four councillor positions to nine.
In Centre Wellington, Frederick de Vries has put forth his name to run for councillor against Don Fisher in Ward 1.
As of the Advertiser deadline there were 11 people in the running for the five positions on Erin town council. In addition to Allan Alls going head to head with Rod Finnie for the mayor’s seat, there are now nine people seeking the remaining four seats at the council table. Erin residents Christopher Naraysingh and Shawn Wilson have recently submitted their names for town council positions.
In Minto, former Minto Mayor David Anderson has entered the race for the Wellington County councillor role. Anderson, mayor from 2006 to 2010, will compete with incumbent county councillor Mark MacKenzie and Palmerston resident Steve Hardie for the position.
In other election News, Denis Trudel will challenge Blaise Liaki for the position of French separate school board trustee.
