ELORA – “The Awakening” event on Oct. 5 in downtown Elora officially kicked off Monster Month in the village, with a pumpkin smash, a pumpkin carving competition, costume fashion show and more.

The month of Halloween-themed events and activities in Fergus and Elora grew out of public enthusiasm for artist Tim Murton's Twilight Zoo – the series of lantern sculptures that decorate the village of Elora at this time of year.

Sensational Elora, a not-for-profit organization focused on food-security issues, now organizes Monster Month, which has grown to include everything from ghost walks and cemetery tours to artisan markets, drag shows, haunted houses and, of course, trick-or-treating.
