MNRF lays 31 fishing-related charges over three-day blitz
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) laid 31 charges and issued 48 warnings during a three-day enforcement blitz along the Grand River in Wellington, Brant and Haldimand counties and Waterloo Region.
From July 13 to 15, conservation officers from the Guelph, Aylmer and southern marine enforcement units checked 445 anglers for compliance with fishing regulations and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
Charges were issued for:
- fishing without a licence;
- fishing with too many lines;
- having an over-limit of fish;
- trespassing to fish;
- using perch as bait;
- transporting rusty crayfish; and
- using goby as bait.
Warnings were issued for: failing to have a fishing licence, failing to carry a fishing licence, fishing within 23 metres of a dam and fishing with too many lines.
Officers also issued warnings for open liquor, not having proper safety gear and possessing marijuana.
