MITCHELL, Bruce Albert

It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of Bruce Albert Mitchell. Predeceased by parents Violet & Albert Mitchell, brother Ronald Mitchell, nephew Steve Mitchell and cousin Bud Smith. Bruce was the loving partner and best friend to Diana Godson, father to Mike (Steph), Krista, Lesley (Troy), Jaime (Greg), step-father to Drew (Vicki), grandfather to Alyssa, Bailee (Jay), Skyla, Noah, Faith, Kaiden (Naomi), Brooklyn, Victoria, Tommy, Hayden, Kenzie & Marlowe and great-grandfather to Poppy, Penni, Oliver, & Josi. Bruce lived with PSP—Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a rare, progressive neurodegenerative disease. The best way to describe it is, Parkinson’s, & dementia. His body failed him though he fought it fiercely. He lived a life that refused to stay in one lane. He lived many professional lives: pilot, electrician, real estate agent, stock market broker—the list goes on. He moved through careers and identities with curiosity and courage, even exploring what it would mean to become Mennonite. We all admired him for that, even when he moved on to the next thing. In his early years, Health and strength mattered to him. He was very strict about diet and nutrition. He was a member of Gold’s Gym and trained at a boxing facility in Toronto. Music was one of his great joys. Bruce taught himself to play the piano, guitar, harmonica, and banjo, filling rooms with sound and spirit. He spent countless hours in the basement jamming by himself. He shared a special bond with his own father through their mutual love of the bagpipes, a connection that spoke to his deep respect for family and tradition. He also loved the open road and the freedom it promised. His Harley-Davidson motorcycles were more than machines — they were an extension of his adventurous soul and his appreciation for independence, craftsmanship, and motion. Above all, he loved deeply and lived boldly. He will be remembered for his passion for quality time with family, restless curiosity, his music, his stories, and the way he embraced life with both hands. Rest in peace, We will cherish all our memories. We love you so much. You will be greatly missed. I’m sorry you had to suffer for so long. Thank you to everyone who participated in Bruce’s life in anyway or contributed to his care in anyway. In lieu of any flowers please consider donating to Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus.
