After 36 years on the job, Minto’s director of public services Norm Fisk is retiring.

Chief administrative officer Bill White informed council at its Sept. 20 meeting that Fisk has officially decided when he will retire.

White said Fisk initially put off announcing the official date.

“I was glad he decided to stay longer, as he did, which helped me,” White said.

The town has already advertised the position and, according to White, has received about 20 resumes. The town hopes to fill the position by mid or late October.

“We’re running up against at least 10 or 12 municipalities looking for the same thing also in our area,” White added.

Deputy mayor Terry Fisk said all of council will be involved in the hiring process along with the management team.

“I would want input from all of the councillors,” the deputy mayor said.

White said the management team will also be looking at “broadening” the terms of employment for the position.

It is expected a formal retirement party will be held for the outgoing director later this year.
