Minto's Fire and Ice New Year's Eve event cancelled

PALMERSTON – Minto's annual Fire and Ice New Year’s Eve event has been cancelled due to current and expected weather conditions.

"Organizers are very disappointed to make the difficult decision to cancel the event, as Fire and Ice is a much-loved community celebration and a highlight for residents and visitors alike," stated a Dec. 31 press release from the Town of Minto.

"However, the safety of attendees, volunteers, performers and staff must remain a top priority."

Officials say the decision was made by Minto staff in consultation with County of Wellington Emergency Measures staff.

"Residents are encouraged to enjoy a fun, warm, and cozy New Year’s Eve at home and to help spread the word about the cancellation to friends and neighbours," stated the release.

Officials say the fireworks show will be rescheduled.
