Minto welcomes new residents with free ‘Meet your Neighbours’ welcome picnic

HARRISTON – The Town of Minto, Minto Chamber of Commerce, and Minto’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee invite families and individuals who are new to the community to the Meet your Neighbours Welcome Picnic (formerly the Newcomers’ Welcome Reception).

“On July 3 from 6 to 8pm new residents can spend a friendly, free and community-focused evening at the Harriston Pavilion (111 George St. S.), to connect with various community organizations, businesses and Town of Minto staff, enjoy a free barbecue and picnic prepared by the Harriston Kinsmen and ask questions to learn more about their new community,” officials state.

There will be time to socialize with neighbours over dinner and to play outdoor lawn games. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket.

Attendees can also pick up a welcome bag, filled with community information and swag donated by local groups and businesses.

“Moving to a new place can be both exciting and overwhelming,” stated town marketing and community development coordinator Erin Raftis.

“We designed this Welcome Picnic to offer those a warm introduction to the people, places and services that make Minto feel like a place your family belongs.”

The event is open to anyone who has moved to Minto within the past year, or who hasn’t attended a welcome event in the last three years.

Pre-registration is required by June 26 at 12pm, available via town.minto.on.ca/calendar.
