Council here  believes it is on the right trail aiming for MTO funds to make Minto more walkable

Under business arising from the previous meeting, councillors discussed the call for applications for the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario’s Transportation Demand Management (TDM) municipal grant program

Treasurer Gord Duff said he had checked into the potential of getting a grant.

He said Deputy-Mayor Judy Dirksen had hoped Minto might qualify to assist with its trailway costs.

“I think it might,” said Duff. “It’s not a large pot of money, but I think it can apply to rural areas - not just to the cities.”

Mayor David Anderson said the idea is to make communities more walkable and to expand the trail system.

The grant program provides financial assistance to municipalities to design transportation demand management plans, programs, and services.

The intent is to reduce vehicle usage in a specified geographic area and to provide practical tools to make it easier for residents to use alternative means of transportation.
