Minto reopens playgrounds, plans for office reopening

MINTO – All playgrounds in Minto are now open and town officials say the municipal office will “soon” follow.

“The Town of Minto wishes to extend sincere appreciation to the community for their cooperation and patience during such unprecedented circumstances,” states a July 17 press release announcing the reopenings.

“It is times like these where the strength and perseverance of our community really shines.”

Minto is reopening playgrounds and accepting booking requests for recreational facilities in response to the province’s July 13 announcement that the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region is entering stage three of the province’s reopening plan on July 17.

Stage three includes increased limits on public gatherings and the reopening most businesses and amenities, including restaurants and bars (indoor dining), gyms, playgrounds, recreational facilities and movie theatres.

Minto playgrounds are now open at the following locations:

  • Clifford Cenotaph Park;
  • Clifford Rotary Park;
  • Drew Hall;
  • Harriston Medical Centre;
  • Harriston Kinsmen Pool;
  • Lawrence Park (Palmerston);
  • Lions Heritage Park (Palmerston); and
  • Palmerston Ball Diamond.

“Playgrounds will be inspected regularly but will not be disinfected or cleaned for use,” states the town press release.

“Recreational facilities will open for activities, rentals and functions that align with provincial and health unit orders and guidelines.”

Minto playgrounds and facilities were closed four months ago, at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Town officials are reminding residents that the following restrictions and guidelines remain in place:

  • gathering sizes are limited 50 indoors and 100 outdoors;
  • stay home if you feel unwell;
  • practice physical distancing; and
  • wash hands frequently.

“Staff are working towards re-opening the Town of Minto municipal office and LaunchIt Minto,” states the release.

“This will happen soon but these facilities will remain closed to the public for the time being.”
