Minto Redneck Games this weekend

The rednecks are ready to roll this weekend in Minto. Once again, Minto is hosting the annual Canadian Redneck Games, an event designed to celebrate rural roots and have some good old country fun.

Last week, Economic Development and tourism officer Belinda Wick-Graham and economic development and tourism assistant Mandy Hansen were at council to explain the event this year.

Wick-Graham said it was less than a week to go for the multiple award winning event. She said Hansen has taken a really big role in this year’s event.

Recreation Director David Stonley said, “We always encourage council to be involved and rumour has it there may not be as much council involvement as in the past.” “We all hope that you can find time to be there and to be part of it.”

“We all have to remember it is probably the most recognized event that the Town of Minto is involved in. It certainly puts us on the map. You are a huge part of that.”

Hansen said sponsorship sits at roughly $13,025, but when he includes the in-kind sponsorship and donations, that amount is $46,890. “It’s pretty significant and exciting to see.”

Wick-Graham said, “With the economic times, we were expecting a decrease in sponsors. We’ve seen that, but not to the extent we were thinking.”

Some discussion was also held as to which councillors would take part in the noon hour parade along the main street.

Friday

Redneck Comedy Night at the Palmerston community centre features Doug Funk, Jason Blanchard, and Bobby Mair. Settlers Creek Band  is playing at Harry Stones (Harriston) following that event.
