MINTO – Minto and Niagara-on-the-Lake are receiving recognition for their Municipal Shared Equipment Model.

The model is receiving the Association for Municipalities of Ontario’s (AMO) Peter J. Marshall 2026 Municipal Innovation Award.

“We’re proud to be part of a solution that shows what’s possible when municipalities work together collaboratively,” stated Minto Mayor David Turton in a press release.

“It’s a practical approach that helps us stretch our community tax dollars so that we can better serve our residents.”

The award recognizes municipal governments demonstrating excellence in the use of innovative approaches to improve capital and/or operating efficiency and to generate effectiveness through alternative service delivery initiatives and partnerships.

“Jointly, the towns have created a unique model that facilitates equipment-sharing among municipalities and government agencies such as conservation authorities, utilities, school boards, universities and colleges,” stated AMO past-president Robin Jones.

“We were very impressed with their cost-effective solution.

“The initiative helps municipalities that struggle with accessing capital funding, rising costs and aging infrastructure,” Jones continued.

The award winners were announced on Aug. 18 at the AMO Annual Conference in Ottawa.

AMO executive director Lindsay Jones, along with then-president Robin Jones, presented the award with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack.
