Minto launches web portal for volunteers and offers training sessions for groups

The town’s Cultural Roundtable organization will help provide training for local volunteers and volunteer organizations.

Economic development manager Belinda Wick-Graham advised Minto council on March 1 that a volunteer information evening will be held at the Harriston Library at 7pm on March 31.

Community groups are invited to attend the event, which will include a session on how to use the new volunteer portal on the Town of Minto website. The portal provides an opportunity for organizations to post, and citizens to learn about and sign up for volunteer opportunities in the community.

The volunteer portal can be accessed through the Treasures of Minto portal on the town’s site at town.minto.on.ca.

The evening will also include a presentation by Reva Cooper, coordinator of Conestoga College’s volunteer management program. Wick-Graham said Cooper would discuss the “Three Rs: Recognizing, Recruiting and Retaining” volunteers.

Cooper will also be involved in a four-part volunteer training program offered by Town of Minto and the Township of Wellington North. Wellington North will host sessions in April and October and Minto will host sessions in May and November.

The sessions, which will include a meal and a social/networking session, will be provided for a minimal cost, said Wick-Graham.

Individuals and organizations may register through Wick-Graham at belinda@town.minto.on.ca or 519-338-251 ext. 241 or through the Mount Forest Chamber of Commerce.
