Minto launches new Culture Days micro-grant program

MINTO – The town’s Cultural Roundtable has officially launched its Culture Days micro-grant program, to help businesses and volunteer groups participate in Culture Days in September and October.

The event is hosted throughout the nation, focusing on free participatory arts and culture events for thousands to attend.

“Every year we do Culture Days in Minto,” town marketing and community development coordinator Erin Raftis said.

The committee hosts various events over the weeks and is encouraging volunteer organizations and businesses to do the same.

“We decided that we would offer the micro-grants to encourage more … groups who would maybe want to participate but don’t have the funds to offer these free events,” she told the Advertiser.

Raftis noted the committee wants to encourage more people to get involved in arts and culture.

Those interested can apply for a micro-grant for up to $200, funded by the roundtable.

“We really encourage our businesses to check out this grant because … we have a lot of creative minds in our business community,” she said. “It’s a great way to bring people to their businesses and get them interacting in a unique way.”

The application can be found on the town’s website at town.minto.on.ca, under the boards and committees tab.

Application requires:

  • name of applicant;
  • amount requested;
  • how one’s events relate to culture; and
  • how funds will be used.

The submission deadline is July 2 and individuals, businesses and groups in Minto can apply.

“Arts and culture is such an important part of our community,” Raftis said. “We have various theatres [and the] Minto Arts Council … that do so many great things.”
