Minto holds the line on arena ice rates

Ice time rates at local arenas here will remain largely unchanged next season, while rates in some other areas have been increased.

Ice rates for adult and youth groups will remain the same as last year, with the exception of a $2 per hour increase (from $98 to $100) in the hourly rate charged to out of town users.

Charges for ball diamonds and soccer fields in Minto will also be the same as last year for all users.

Rates for swimming lessons up to level 12 remain unchanged. However, rates for some advanced courses have increased by $15 to $25 per session. Rates for season passes ($80) and family passes ($160) for public swimming will be the same as 2010.

Auditorium rental rates in Harriston, Palmerston, and Clifford remain at 2010 rates. However, rental rates for arena or curling surfaces for functions has been increased by $50 per day over last year.

The rates, proposed by the parks and recreation advisory committee were approved by Minto council at the Feb. 1 meeting.

Councillor Ron Elliott noted any rate increases were the result of increased costs in those areas.

“Some of the rates have been frozen as our users and renters cope with the implementation of HST, stated Director of Recreation Dave Stonley in a written report. “Some rates have been increased to help better off-set the costs associated with providing that service.”
