Minto announces songwriter's challenge winners
The top three finishers in the Minto Songwriter’s Challenge were announced on Dec. 5.
Eight finalists submitted lyrics based on the theme of “Small Town” and then performed at the Norgan Theatre in Palmerston Nov. 25.
The performances were aired on Wightman TV and posted to the Minto YouTube channel and Facebook page where the public “liked” their favourite. The number of “likes” was added to audience votes and the judges’ scores. The top three contestants will headline the 2015 Concerts in the Park series and have two songs recorded on a CD.
The top finishers were Samantha Glasier of Hanover, Trina Larter from Conn and Juanita Wilkins of Clifford.
The other finalists will have two songs recorded, and perform as opening acts at the 2015 Concerts in The Park. The finalists were: Alexandria McRae, Nicholas Mercuri, Kyra Ash, Doris Laird and Peter Schofield.
“We were just so impressed with the quality of the lyrics submitted that we felt that everyone deserved the opportunity to have their songs recorded and for our community to hear these songs at our Concerts in the Park Series,” said Minto business and economic manager Belinda Wick-Graham.
A CD release party and concert schedule will be released in the spring.
