Centre Wellington Mayor Joanne Ross-Zuj was impressed with students at the recent commencement ceremonies at Centre Wellington District High School.
On Oct. 28, Ross-Zuj commented “there were 1,200 chairs set up in the place – and the place was packed.”
She added, “the graduating class conducted themselves very well.”
Ross-Zuj noted that almost 120 different awards were handed out during the event.
“It’s just an amazing turnout from our community with everyone trying to give them a hand up when they go off to their post secondary or other education. The awards were just a-flowing,” the mayor said.
“If we are not one of the biggest, I think the superintendent of education [Upper Grand District School Board] said this was one of the most giving communities,” she added.
The consistency of that generosity “is a real feather in our cap,” Ross-Zuj said.
She added the students receiving the awards were very gracious.
