MAX committee reaches 60% of fundraising goal

Hav­ing now raised over $156,000 towards the PMD arena addition, the Mapleton arena eXpansion (MAX) committee is now setting its sights on an elimination draw fundraiser on April 24.

Tickets for the event, which will feature a Settlers Creek Band dance are $50 and are available from any MAX committee member or by calling 519-638-7723. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Doors open for the event at 7:30pm and prizes include:

- 10 draws of $50;

- $500 draw at 9pm (must be in attendance to win);

- Nintendo Wii;

- blackberry;

- laptop computer;

- 42-inch TV; and

- 50-inch TV with entertainment system.

The first early bird prize of $100 was drawn on March 17 and the next one will be held on April 14.

The MAX committee was formed  several years ago following a request from councillor Jim Curry, also the chairman of the township’s parks, culture and recreation committee. It has committed to raise about $250,000 for the $1.1-million addition at the arena.

Composed of representatives from minor hockey, fig­ure skating, the Icemen, Moore­­field Optimist and Drayton Kinsmen Club and the wider community, the club has completed numerous fundraiser to date, including:

- last year’s elimination car draw, dinner and dance: $20,000;

- naming rights within the arena: $95,000 (there are still opportunities available for naming rights);

- grant from Farm Credit Canada: $25,000;

- dinner and dance: $5,000;

- catering: $1,500;

- two ball hockey tournaments: $4,000; and

- two performances of Uncle Phil’s Diner: $6,000.
