Marlins capture tournament gold medal

The Palmerston Marlin novice ladies fastball team competed in the Waterloo Ghosts Fastball tournament May 25 to 27.

The team opened the tournament on May 25 against the team from North Oxford and won 14-2.

Next up for the team on Saturday morning was Brantford, which was a great game for four innings but Brantford broke it open and came away with a 9-2 win.

The Marlins rose to the challenge in their third game, scoring a 10-7 win over the team from Mississauga.

After the hard fought victory against Mississauga the team’s final game of the round robin was with Waterloo Black. The team needed a win to proceed directly into the gold medal game but would settle for an 8-8 tie.

That resulted in a tie for second place between Palmerston and Mississauga, but the Marlins advanced because they has defeated Mississauga earlier in the tournament.

On May 27 the Marlins played the gold medal game against the only team that beat them in the round robin: Brantford. Ready and well rested, the Marlins got their bats going and ended up mercying the Brantford team 18-6 for the gold medal.
