Mark Bailey, a trustee representing wards 1 and 5 in Guelph, was re-elected chair of the Upper Grand District School Board at the board’s inaugural meeting on Dec. 2. It is his third year as board chair.

Trustee Marty Fairbairn, who represents Guelph Ward 6 and Puslinch Township, was acclaimed to serve as vice-chair for a third year.

The positions are for a one-year term ending Nov. 30, 2015.

All 10 trustees took the oath of office at the inaugural meeting for the 2015-2018 board, including three rookie trustees elected in municipal elections held October 27:

- Barb White, who has been school council chair at Credit Meadows ES in Orangeville for the last three years, was elected as the new trustee for Orangeville;

- Martha MacNeil was elected to represent Guelph Wards 1 and 5 (along with Bailey). MacNeil has volunteered on various board committees, and for the past two years was chair of the UGDSB parent involvement committee; and

- Barbara Lustgarten-Evoy, a parenting advice columnist and radio host, was elected trustee for Centre Wellington.

Returning to the board table are re-elected trustees Bruce Schieck, Kathryn Cooper, Lynn Topping, Linda Busuttil and Susan Moziar.

At the inaugural meeting trustees were also named to the board’s various committees.

Trustee Moziar takes on the role of program committee chair for the next year, with Lynn Topping as vice-chair. Trustee Cooper will reprise her role as chair of the business operations committee, with Bruce Schieck as vice-chair.
