FERGUS – A group of 250 students, teachers and parents from Maranatha Christian School (MCS) held a walk-a-thon on Sept. 20 to raise funds for the new CT scanner for Groves Memorial Community Hospital.

Students walked from MCS on Wellington Road 19, through downtown Fergus, ending at the Cataract Trail into the memorial forest at Groves. The students were inspired by a similar walk in 2010 that ended at old Groves hospital for the current CT scanner.

The school raised $6,886 including online donations, exceeding the previous amount raised in 2010.

Altogether, MCS has donated $12,250 to Groves since its first gift of $700 to help start the oncology department in 2007.
